Essential Oils Safety Guidelines

All of my Essential Oils are made using 100% natural ingredients and have been blended for me by one of the countries leading aromatherapy and essential oil companies. As with all natural products which have been created for wearing, there are some important guidelines to follow as listed below. These guidelines have been drawn up by the producer of my essential oil blends.

For External Use Only

Never ingest essential oils and avoid contact with the mouth and eyes. On accidental contact with eyes, rinse with copious amounts of water and consult your doctor if symptoms persist.

Health Conditions

If you are Pregnant, Diabetic, Epileptic or have high blood pressure there are certain essential oils you should avoid and some you should use with caution. We advise you seek professional advice prior to using aromatherapy if you have any of these conditions.


Some essential oils should not be used in certain circumstances and also may need diluting more than others, so for each essential oil’s contra indications and individual information, always follow manufacturer’s recommendations.

Using in the bath

When using essential oils in the bath, mix a maximum of 5 drops into a cap full of bubble bath or milk, then hold it under the running tap. Do not add them directly to the water as they will float on the water and may cause skin irritation. Important – Essential oils may mark certain types of plastic baths if undiluted.

Skin Reaction

With the exception of Lavender and Tea Tree, essential oils should never be applied undiluted to the skin as they can cause irritation. When using on Lava Stones, only add a drop or two and wait for it to soak into the stone.

Certain Aromatherapy oils (e.g spices) can very occasionally cause a skin reaction for people with sensitive skin. If you have any doubt over skin sensitivity, we recommend that you performing a small ‘patch test’ prior to using any new oil or product.


A small handful of essential oils, especially citrus oils, are photosensitive. This means they are sensitive to sunlight. When these oils are applied to the skin they can cause a rash or burn when exposed to sunlight. If using these oils, it is recommended that you simply avoid contact with the sun or UV rays for a few days after application. If you are fair skinned you may want to be extra cautious and double this time.


To keep your oils in optimum condition, always keep them cool, out of direct sunlight and replace caps straight after use. Keep out of the reach of children.


Some essential oils are flammable. Keep oils away from naked flames and fires and never leave candle burners unattended.
